Home made christmas gifts
This year I hand made a Christmas gift for my friend.
It's a necklace shaped like a pear, her favourite fruit ;) The chain is sterling silver from ifoundgallery.
A little jewelry box would compliment it perfectly so I set out on making one from scratch. Here are the steps I took in making mine.
1. Bevel cut six 2x2" pieces, I used half inch walnut.
2. Lay masking tape in a cross and lay out the pieces, use wood glue on each edge, except for the lid of course.
3. Pull all the pieces together using the masking tape and make sure it's tight! Let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
Fold the lid too to make sure the lid will fit properly.
4. File the edges and gradually sand from 80 to 220. Stain it with Danish Oil and give it some wood wax. I used two layers of both.
Voila!

something different
I made use of Google's free modelling program Google Sketchup. Sketchup doesn't have a render program built within but you can export it to another program called Kerkythea for rendering. A little warning though; Kerkythea is not really for newbies, but it's free so it's worth learning. There are many tutorials to be found online and on youtube.
Each one took about 5-10 hours modelling time and up to 1 day rendering time.

destruction comes easy... for some
I've converted this image into a 360 degree panorama, unfortunately blogspot doesn't allow me to embed it into my blog. Click here to view it, incredible how something can change so much when you look at it differently.

the great escape
The elders say, "A faithful heart makes wishes come true."
I painted this but it was missing something. So I painted myself.

blog reconstructed
I've decided to refocus my blog towards industrial, architectural, and visual design. Perhaps these posts may inspire those to adapt some of these ideas into your life, and for my fellow teachers, your classroom :)
